When we push ourselves hard and hold ourselves to high expectations, we can trick ourselves to believe that we’re doing better. However, when we submerge ourselves in our work, we can neglect our mental health and eventually, we will burn out. We have to make sure to constantly pay attention to our bodies to know what we need in order to keep healthy.
Self care leads to happiness, which is important in loving ourselves and the others around us.
Remembering to focus on self care is vital to a healthy work-life balance.
There are many misconceptions about self care, such as having to incorporate completely new activities into our daily routine, which may not fit our needs or can even be hard to stay consistent with. Sometimes it can be hard to stick to a routine, especially if we don’t particularly have time. So let’s start one step at a time.
Self care plays a key role in managing stress and anxiety. It can be hard to focus on ourselves, especially through tough times when we have to be concentrating on other, “more important,” things. We can be so focused in our present that we can end up neglecting our own mental, physical, and/or our emotional health in the process. However, self care is just as important as anything else. Our minds, bodies, and souls come first.
If you have been taking steps to improve your mind and body, you have been practicing good self care. Your mental and physical health are important, and should not only be taken care of when it’s too late. Learning to take a break, relax, or de-stress are all very important aspects of life.
The main thing to understand is that self care is not a selfish act that we should be ashamed of practicing, as it is not only about considering our needs, but knowing what we have to do to take care of ourselves so that we can, in turn, be able to take care of others or our loved ones.
Self care is to ensure that we are physically and mentally healthy and living a healthy lifestyle that is beneficial for us. Self care activities are supposed to enhance our energy, restore (and possibly even improve) our health, and reduce any stress we may have. For example, it could be building up the courage to ask someone for help when we need it.
Self care can mean many different things to everyone, but your self care routine will be unique to you, because it focuses on you.
Some great ways to begin your self care journey can be to create a list of things that you want to stop doing, such as things that bring you down or damage your overall health. Instead, replace these things with activities you do enjoy, whether it’s spending some time engaging in your favorite hobbies or listening to music.
