A good night's sleep is incredibly important for your health, in both the physical and mental aspects. In fact, it's just as important as exercising. In today's society, especially teens, are sleeping less than they did in the past, and sleep quality has significantly decreased as well. Most teens need somewhere between 9 and 9 1/2 hours of sleep, and on average, they only get around 7. Sleep has a strong effect on your ability to concentrate and do well at school and work, so by avoiding sleep, it could potentially lead to detrimental consequences toward your health and mood.
For example, interns, on a traditional schedule with extended work hours of more than 24 hours, made 36% more serious medical errors than interns on a schedule that allowed more sleep. Poor sleepers have a higher risk of developing heart diseases and strokes as well as additional mental health issues such as attitude changes or depression. Make sure you're caring for your health, not only by being active, but by also getting the rest you deserve!
