Physical Self-Care

You may have noticed by now that many of the different types of self-care tend to overlap. Physical self-care is no exception. Take a look at some of the best ways to practice this kind of self-care, and consider trying them out!

We've talked about eating full meals each day, but that doesn't mean you can eat just about anything for those meals. However, it also does not mean that you need to constantly eat salads, greens, and fruits either. A good mixture of fruits, grains, vegetables, protein, dairy, and even sweets to reward yourself, is the best way to maintain a balanced diet and take care of your physical health.

Your doctors may have told you this before, but exercise is also essential to keep our bodies healthy. In fact, many times, professionals recommend at least an hour of exercise each day. However, we all know how hard it can be to find the time to exercise when we're so consumed with 8 hours of school each day along with another many hours of homework and extracurriculars, but even finding just 5 minutes each day to do a couple basic exercises can contribute to your physical self-care.

Once again, sleep is one of the most important parts to taking care of your physical health. But as mentioned previously, we can't always be expected to spend half our day doing homework and attending school while also following a reasonable sleep routine. The best way to go about this is to try to refrain from procrastination. Think about completing as much work as you can as soon as it is assigned, reminding yourself along the process that you can reward yourself with a long nap or something else you enjoy doing to relax. The other option you have is to take several nice breaks in between your activities throughout the day to make up for some of that lost sleep.

And finally, it's always a good idea to go outside, take in the fresh air, and walk around your neighborhood or community (of course while wearing a mask). You can listen to music while you walk, or even an audiobook, and it can also contribute to your exercise for the day. On the days when you feel most overwhelmed, it can be surprising how much a short walk can relieve some of that stress.

So once more, consider these tips and try to see if they work for you! Not everyone will have the same result or the same response, but I do encourage you to at least consider these recommendations.
