“Never be afraid to fall apart. It presents an opportunity to rebuild yourself the way you wish you had been all along” – Rae Smith.
We are human, and we all have our ups and downs in life. Don’t let it discourage you because life is so much more than giving up after a bump in the road. However, I know what it can feel like to hit rock bottom when everything is just not going to plan. When you have no motivation left, no energy to give, and no capacity to keep going, never give up. I know it can be so hard to feel happy again and work your way back up, but I promise it does get better. Here are some simple tips to grow after you’ve hit an all time low. The most important thing to remember is there are so many good things ahead, and you’ve just hit a plateau in the huge journey of life.
Let yourself feel
It is important to allow yourself to feel your emotions and explore them. Emotions are a huge part of life, and you have to be able to understand yourself and the way you are feeling. Get comfortable with vulnerability, and allow yourself to cry or scream or just feel. You are allowed to be emotional, and it is a vital part of self-growth.
Self-reflect
You must self-reflect on your actions, your emotions, and yourself in order to grow up. Figure out what went wrong. The key is not to play the “blame-game” with yourself or others. You aren’t trying to blame others for mistakes, but rather you are reflecting on what you can do to be better. It may feel like you can’t do anything, but take this time to reflect on who you want to be moving forward.
Take a Break
Oftentimes, it can be easy to pile many commitments, assignments, and tasks on top of each other in hopes that you will complete it later. But burnout is a real thing, and it can cause immense amounts of stress. Allow yourself to take a break when you feel that it’s too much. This will help prevent large burnouts, and you’ll feel a lot better after reorienting yourself.
Go out in nature
It can be easy to neglect the power of nature and greenery, but sometimes all you need to do is take a deep breath away from electronics and the media. The online situation has forced us all to depend solely on the internet, but remember to go outside (with a mask of course) once in a while.
Surround yourself in the right people
Don’t be afraid to drop people who are toxic or mean to you. They aren’t worth your time, and they can foster even more negativity in your life. Tell your problems to a trusted adult, parent, friend, or even pet. Don’t let yourself face tough times alone, and allow yourself to communicate and express how you feel.
Seek help
When you genuinely feel as if you can’t get back up after you’ve hit rock bottom, go seek help whether that be from a friend, parent, or even a therapist. The stigma surrounding mental health is an issue, and you should never be afraid to admit that you need help. Just try. It may help you immensely!
