Exercise in general
Regular exercise decreases your chance of illness. The chances of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes (type 2) significantly decrease once exercise becomes part of your daily routine.
In addition, exercise can improve our overall mood and our mental health. The reason for this is because working out increases your level of endorphins, which act as natural painkillers. If you aren't producing enough endorphins, you may be experiencing mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Remember to consult your doctor to find out the best course of action.
How running helps us
According to Harvard Health Publishing, a recent study shows that running for 15 minutes a day, or walking for an hour reduces the risk of depression. The study was published by JAMA Psychiatry, and it used a technique called Mendelian Randomization. Researchers used data from two genetic databases of thousands of people and found that exercise could independently reduce the risk of depression.
Running, like any other exercise, is a great way to keep yourself healthy and be the best you can be. In fact, a good alternative to running is walking. Walking around 10,000 steps is recommended. Some advice is to listen to a podcast or a music playlist while walking, it keeps things interesting!
Some of the positive effects of jogging:
Heart Health Improves

Decrease in the chance of dementia/Alzheimers
Maintanation of flexibility
Reduction of insulin resistance
How to start to run
Running is not for everyone, and that is okay! There are other forms of exercise that cater to all different kinds of people. The point of this article is to inform people on the benefits of specifically running. If you want to start running, it may be a little intimidating at first.
Start walking first. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise because you do it naturally, it typically doesn't take as much effort as running does. Brisk walking would be the next step, just speed up your walking. Jogging would be next after that, and then finally running. This all would take time, but remember it is a process, and you are doing it for yourself!
