The Balance Between Self-Love and Overconfidence

In life, it is always important to love yourself and to put yourself first over everyone. However, it is crucial to remember that the self-serving bias in which you view yourself as “better” than everyone else is real. There is a fine line between appreciating yourself just enough or too much.

Self love is defined to be regard for one's own well-being and happiness (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic). It isn’t a bad thing to love yourself, and in fact, it is crucial to live your life to its fullest potential. This can look like having a more positive view on yourself, your mind, and your body. It is also important to remember that it’s okay to have bad days, and you can’t love yourself your entire life. It’s all about loving yourself DESPITE your mistakes and flaws.

Overconfidence is often associated with narcissism or selfishness in which you believe yourself to be better than everyone around you. While it is important to hold yourself in high regard, remember that you aren’t better than everyone. You are equals, and you should love others the same way you love yourself. Treat yourself the way you would treat your best friend.

Once again, you are human, and it is okay to have rough times because we all do. You are just as important as the billions of other people in the world, so treat yourself like you matter. Don’t bring others down to bring yourself up; instead, uplift and empower each other. Life isn’t a competition on who’s better; rather, it’s a winning game to maximize your fullest potential.
