How to Seek Help If You Need It

Your mental health matters, and you need to realize your worth. When things get overwhelming and stressful, please take a break. You deserve so much more, and you deserve to take a breather. Allow yourself to reset, and allow yourself to just breathe. Look at things one step at a time, and don’t let the whole image overwhelm you. Sometimes, it can get really bad however to the point where you need to talk to someone else. Confiding in people you trust isn’t a weakness, and sometimes you just need to let it all out.

Friends: Your peers and your friends have a humongous impact on you especially as a teenager or young adult. Find the right group of people to hang out with, and develop trusting relationships. When you feel stressed or sad, text a friend. Call someone and let them know how you are feeling. Have a day where you just rant about your feelings, school, or just life in general. It feels so good to let out how you feel, and it is so important to have someone relating to you and sharing your feelings.

Parents: Your parents have been with you your entire life, and sometimes you just need to talk to them. It can often be hard to connect with your parents especially as a teenager, but as an adult, they will listen to you. They will help you with whatever is stressing you out, and sometimes all you need is a shoulder to lean on. During the pandemic, it is often hard to connect with friends, but your parents are always here to listen to you.

Siblings: Sometimes all you need is a sibling to listen. Your siblings, whether you have a close relationship or not, know who you are, and you need to let them know that you are struggling. Have check ins, and keep yourself accountable for your emotions!

Teachers/School Counsellors: I promise you teachers can seem extremely intimidating, and they may seem like they don’t care about you, but they are humans too and they do care. Find a trusted teacher in your school, and just let them know how you are feeling. A lot of stress can come from school, and if you tell someone about your problems, they may be able to help you.

Seek a Therapist: If you are really struggling mentally, and you feel drained, tired, and just immense amounts of sadness all the time, please don’t be afraid to go to a therapist. There are also many online sources of help such as the websites below, and especially now, it is easier to connect with someone that can help you. Don’t turn to an escape for your sadness because I promise you, it will only make it worse.

Don’t be afraid to admit that you need help. There are so many struggling teens, especially during the pandemic, and sometimes we just need someone to listen to whoever it may be. I truly do believe in you, so take a deep breath and conquer your problems one step at a time.
