Anxiety Resources

Many people struggling with anxiety aren’t aware of all the resources there are to help them navigate their mental illness. Some people are able to work through their anxiety by themselves or with the help of a family member or friend. However, you don’t always have to do that. People who suffer more severe forms of anxiety may want to get in touch with a therapist. There are many different ways to get into contact with a professional who specializes in different types of anxiety. A common reason that people don’t seek out professional help is because it is too expensive. While that can be the case, depending on where you look for help, you may be able to talk to someone for less money.

Some ways to get in touch with a professional:

Anxiety hotline: This is a free 24 hour service that allows for you to talk to someone about what you’re experiencing. Hotlines also give you the opportunity to ask questions about anxiety and everything that comes with it.

National Alliance on Mental Illness- 1-800-950-NAMI (1-800-950-6264)

Anxiety and Depression Association of America- 1-240-485-1001

National Institute of Mental Health- 1-866-615-6464

Therapy: There are thousands of therapists all over the place. You can find clinics around you that offer therapy sessions. Depending on you or your family’s insurance plan, you have free sessions provided for you. Therapy can be very helpful with your mental health, but you have to make sure you find the right therapist for you. Not all of them will be what you need, so don’t be discouraged if it takes you a couple of tries to find the best therapy for you and your life.

Online services: There are many different online therapy services that offer therapy over video chat, phone calls, or even texts and emails. You have many different choices that all depend on your preferred method of therapy. You can also experiment with different methods until you figure out what your favorite is. A couple of options you could try are online-therapy.com, talkspace.com, and teencounseling.com.

These can be really helpful if you’re open about everything you’re going through, but only do it if you are comfortable with it. Talking to someone allows us to get our feelings out of our head and sometimes that alone can do great things for our mental health.
